Unbelievably it is already more than a fortnight since my parents returned home – and I haven’t written anything since
Not that there is a lot going on. Just one or two “administrative” chores and the usual round of job-hunting.
Last Friday, Anike and I went to the riding school in Havert with Zula. When we got there, there was already a young woman working a mare on a lunge line. But, no problem, she was about to stop lunging and we could come in immediately. While Anike was warming up, this woman took off the lunge, mounted the mare and proceeded to ride a few rounds of the ring, first at a walk then trotting. Suddendly the horse just stopped and refused to move another step.
With a lot of swearing, stamping, hitting, whippignand kicking, the horse finally got underway again. This happened a couple of times but the girl got so frustrated that she went back to the lunge. Once mounted again, the mare did one more sudden stop and the girl went ballistic. She got off, yanked the horse to the side of the ring, reattached the lunge and yanked the horse outside where she proceeded to literally thrash it with the lunge whip. ![]()
I advised her a good book when she came back in (having put the horse in the trailer) but she told me the horse was perfectly fit and went 8 weeks without a hiccup then suddenly this; then another few weeks… etc.. She obviously had no realization that she was at fault and not the horse.
Big story is that Hetty TGVed off to Paris on Monday morning for a few days. Enjoying the atmosphere, the parks and the food! I envy her the food a little
, although I think Belgian cooking is better, but the rest is really not my thing.
Still, I am panning to do the Transhumance this winter – too cold for Hetty!!!
Yesterday evening was riding school again. Few more people than last week when there was no one for the second lesson! But just our luck that it started to rain just five minutes before the first lesson having been a lovely afternoon
